Public pools and private pools

Swimming pools are divided into public swimming pools and private swimming pools. The former one allows the public and visitors to use, usually entrance charged, while the latter one is privately owned, most of which are managed by housing estates or private clubs, only receiving members.

Standard Pool and leisure pool

Standard swimming pool, also known as competition pool, are generally used in holding swimming race. The standard swimming pool is 50 meters long and 21 meters wide, while the Olympic Games and World Championships requires 25 meters width. In addition, there are pools whose length is only 25 meters called short pool. Water depth is greater than 1.8 m. There are eight lanes, each 2.5 meters wide. For official competition pool, starting platform shore is not less than 10 meters wide, the other shore width is not less than five meters. The pool of irregular shape set in a hotel or recreation area for swimming purpose is referred to the leisure pool, which usually divided into adult pool and children pool based on the pool depth, in order to increase the safety of children playing in the water.

Heated pools and cold water pools

According to whether water in pools is heated or not, pools can also be divided into heated pools and cold water pools. For the heated pools, the water temperature can be maintained in the specified temperature at all seasons. The methods include the introduction of hot water boiler or hot spring, keeping supplying warm water.

Outdoor pools and indoor pools

Depending on whether there is a rooftop or other buildings over swimming pool, swomming pools are divided into outdoor pool and indoor pool. Most of outdoor pools will not be heated, due to high heating costs when impacted by temperature and wind impact, while indoor swimming pools influenced by these fators less, so the indoor pools are usually heated to maintain year-round business during the day .
